Conference-Debate: The art of crafting an ending in cinema

2025-04-02

The Art of crafting a film’s Ending: "And they lived happily ever after… But is it that simple?"

Some movie endings move us deeply, others leave us questioning, and a few stay with us forever. Why? What makes a film’s conclusion resonate so powerfully? And most importantly, how do directors and screenwriters construct these pivotal moments in cinema?

On April 2nd, Lausanne Palace invites you to an engaging conference where emotions, storytelling, and film analysis come together. Join passionate experts as they unveil the secrets behind unforgettable endings and their impact on both our perception of the film… and reality itself.

Special speakers :

  • Kacey Mottet Klein – Acclaimed Swiss actor known for his intense performances and nuanced roles in introspective narratives.
  • Frédéric Maire – Director of the Swiss Cinematheque.
  • Moderated by Stéphane Gobbo – Culture Editor-in-Chief at Le Temps.

A deep dive into the art of endings :

  • What makes a film’s ending truly unforgettable?
  • Is a happy ending always necessary to captivate the audience?
  • Cultural differences in storytelling (Hollywood vs. Europe vs. Asia).
  • Are open endings the new gold standard of modern cinema?
